Interesting Places in Australia

Australia is located in the Southern Hemisphere, occupying the entire Australian continent, as well as the island of Tasmania and several other islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. It harmoniously combines impassable jungles and modern megacities. This country attracts adventurers with its beautiful landscapes, exotic animals, and unique architecture.

Great Barrier Reef

This natural wonder is a system of reefs that includes over 3,000 corals and spans about 300 kilometers of Queensland's coastline. The Barrier Reef consists of 70 islands, with a surface area so vast that it can even be seen from space. This marvel of nature began forming about 25 million years ago following the shifting of the Australian lithospheric plate. These reefs were created by tiny coral polyps that resemble small upside-down jellyfish.

Annually, about 2 million tourists visit here, bringing the region an income of 3 billion dollars. Despite the vast expanse of coral reefs, they no longer impede modern navigation as they once did. The Barrier Reef protects the continent from destructive typhoons. The Great Lagoon, over 50 meters deep, separates the open ocean from the mainland and the reef, also holds great value. Coral reefs are a kind of sanctuary for many marine fauna, and about 3 million seabirds inhabit the islands.

Sydney Tower

Sydney Tower is one of the tallest towers located in the Southern Hemisphere. It reaches a height of 305 meters, and it's no wonder tourists consider it the best observation deck not only in Australia but in the world. The tower consists of several parts, one at 251 meters, and another 20 meters higher. At the top of the tower, there is a 3D cinema where visitors can take a virtual tour of the country's landmarks. You can reach any part of the tower by three high-speed elevators or stairs. On holidays, Sydney Tower is decorated with lights and fireworks.

Ayers Rock

One of the most interesting places in the country is the red rock Ayers Rock. The rock has become so popular due to its unusual color and shape. It stretches over 2.5 kilometers long and 1.5 kilometers wide. Previously, it was believed that this rock was part of a meteorite that fell to Earth in ancient times. Some researchers suggested that the rock is the product of the erosive decay of highland terrain. Previously, this natural wonder was part of the large Petermann mountain range, the origin of which remains a mystery. This is primarily because this mountain range appeared almost out of nowhere in the midst of the endless desert. However, today, this landmark is considered one of the most amazing in the country.

Opera House

The Opera House is one of Australia's most famous landmarks. This structure is even ranked among the most popular places on the planet. One of its main features is that it stands entirely on water and has an unusual shape that resembles a large ship with high sails. Today, smooth lines in architecture are quite common, but the Sydney Opera House was the first building with such a radical design.

Construction of the theater was completed in 1973, and its opening was accompanied by a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and a huge fireworks display. The Sydney Opera House is considered the largest cultural center in the country. Annually, more than 3,000 performances and exhibitions are held here, with an audience of 2 million spectators.
